Pharmaceutical goods are often sensitive to a variety of factors, the foremost being temperature. The sensitivity sets distinct challenges to the storing and shipping of such products. The solution chosen for circumstance monitoring needs to both be user-friendly and fulfil the strict legislative requirements. From this foundation, the Association of Finnish Pharmacies and Logmore started their cooperation.

Logmore is a Finnish start-up company founded in 2017. With the first solution in the world to suit end-to-end monitoring, the company’s mission is to minimize the waste and spoilage of goods on a global scale by providing effortless circumstance monitoring services. The cost-efficient solution has been designed particularly for the needs of the food and pharmaceutical industries.

“As the online pharmacy operations grow in Finland, this cooperation with Logmore allows us to provide our customers with higher quality delivery services than ever before,'' says the AFP pharmaceutical manager Charlotta Sandler. The responsibility for correct storing is transferred from the pharmacy to the end-customer only when the customer receives the delivery.

The Logmore service offers a compact and easy-to-use data logger that can be used for end-to-end monitoring from the pharmacy to the end-user. This way even the customer can verify the usability of the purchased goods by scanning the QR code on the logger’s screen.

From the perspective of European pharmaceutical organizations, the QR is an optimal method due to the recent EU directive that makes QR codes mandatory on all vaccine packages and QR code readers a part of everyday life for pharmacies.

The practices developed in cooperation by the AFP and Logmore encourage consumers to return loggers to the pharmacies. “A single logger can monitor shipping temperatures for up to years before the battery runs out. It’s not only economical but also ecological to have the devices returned the pharmacies,” says Niko Polvinen, the COO of Logmore.

Pharmacies have received instructions to include circumstance monitoring in their deliveries especially in temperature sensitive packages, during hot and cold seasons and for long-distance deliveries. The data gained in turn should be used for corrective actions so that variations in shipping conditions can be minimized in the future.
